Unnatural Boundaries 1-5, 28 x 20″ graphite on drafting vellum, 2013
In these drawings, the marks accumulate to create two interrelated formations drifting apart or coming together. While the shapes are primarily organic, one form within each drawing has an unnatural boundary: a straight edge, which depicts a geometric and abrupt cut. As a result, the tension between organic and hard edges increases – inviting viewers to contemplate where unnatural boundaries are drawn and how our minds interpret them.
